AQM XX: FAVA's 20th Biennial Contemporary Quilt Exhibition
May 11 - July 7, 2024
FAVA Gallery, Oberlin, Ohio 44074
Artist as Quiltmaker
The Artist as Quiltmaker is the second longest running art quilt exhibition in the world. FAVA deliberately chooses not to define ‘quilt,’ thereby encouraging both established and emerging artists to submit innovative artwork—pushing boundaries and challenging expectations—whether they use traditional or non-traditional techniques or materials… AQM was originally envisioned by one of FAVA’s founders, quilt historian Ricky Clark. This year, AQM continues the tradition of celebrating the best in contemporary art quilts at FAVA for its 20th iteration! (Juror: Petra Fallaux)
Reception & Awards: Sat, June 22, 12 - 2pm

Tuesday - Saturday: 11am - 5pm

Family Feud Fun: “Growing up, my brother told me the contestants could hear you if you yelled the answers loud enough into the TV speaker. It worked a couple of times. Steve Harvey was not the host at the time, but I wish he was. His "wood-quilted" suit is adorned with a pattern inspired by the flying geese quilt pattern. The carpet is laser-engraved with a 1970s wallpaper design. *This piece is first of the “Party People” series.

BUILT QUILT ART OPENING & DISPLAY
Wood Quilts & Engravings by Troy Murrah
On Display October 27 - November 16, 2018
Combining inherited family skills of quilting and carpentry, Troy Murrah uses thousands of wood fragments, cut from leftover remnants, to construct elaborate wall hangings that replicate traditional quilt block patterns. Take a closer look, and find engravings of wallpaper patterns––designed by the artist using imagery influenced by his past. What results are personal commentaries on the strength of our mothers, the ability to transform even the most humblest living conditions into a home, and remembering that chivalry is not dead.
